This research is dedicated to the problem of internship which is considered to be an integral component of present day future specialists training in different branches of science including tourism.

As hospitality and tourism are two fast growing industries in the world, it is of paramount importance for the universities to internationalize the programs and curriculums to prepare and equip students for challenges of globalization. For this reason, tourism students internship as a way to master work power skills, including English has been chosen a subject for this investigation.

The research aim is to reveal how students internship affects their future progress. The tasks can be outlined as following: to reveal the importance of internships, to point out the countries offering internship programs, to investigate students internship impact on their communication skills. Such methods of research as data collection, analysis and comparison have been used.

Internship programs in tourism are known for giving students the opportunities to apply their knowledge in real world environment. They greatly increase the chances that a student will gain full time employment after graduation.

International internship programs allow students to learn about time management, discipline and gain effective communication skills [2, p.396].

A number of studies have shown that there are six attributes that employers are looking for. These attributes are: motivation; leadership skills; oral communication skills; experience of working and interpersonal communication skills [4]. All these attributes may be gained while serving an apprenticeship abroad.

Today there are many various programs all over the world that students can use for getting an international communicative experience. The most popular and hosting English speaking countries for providing an apprenticeship are: the United States of America, Canada, Australia and New Zealand. All the countries offer internship in such specializations as: tourism, hotel and restaurant business, economics, information technology and cooking [1; 3].

The research showed that a special internship program to developing tourism working abilities and social skills has been designed in the USA. It is financed by US AID and is meant to teach future entrepreneurs, community organization leaders, lawyers and specialists of tourism industry to work in a professional surrounding, perceive a new foreign experience and gain skills of team working.

Another stage of our investigation was dedicated to the Institute of tourism students participation in internship programs abroad. 45 students have recently been questioned to prove the efficiency of cross-cultural internship and show the dynamics of communicative and language skills development. The respondents served their apprenticeship in such countries as: The USA, Germany, Greece, Canada, Turkey and England.

Analysis of the results received after the internship shows that due to hearing native accents in recipient countries theres a significant increase of such language oriented skills as: speaking (dialogues and monologues) in 26 and 11% and understanding (listening in 15% and reading in 4%). Communicative competence is developed due to contextualized projects and special assignments. While on practice students communicate with foreigners and improve their motivation, work on their social skills, extend the vocabulary and accuracy both consciously and subconsciously.

Therefore we can state that education is not enough to allow graduates to perform at a higher level. In the real world environment, analytical skills are not enough. So, in order to improve future specialists professional competence they are to be supported with cross-cultural internship opportunities.
